You can download a pretty good spl meter for the iphone through the App Store.
It is free and works well. Search for sound meter at the App Store.
I downloaded it at a rock concert with a friend's kids -- went immediately to
the drug store and bought ear plugs.

I had a similar issue with the 3.97 Beta firmware, but in my case only the
DSP2 wouldn't take. It kept indicating that 2.58 DSP2 load had failed and noted
that DSP2 vers.2.54 was still installed. I tried a number of times with the same
result. Finally I powered down the K3. When I turned
Hi Folks,
I am now confused..my K2 serial no 1926 from 2001 has T7 having 20turns / 5
turns.
I just checked the latest manual and the turns are the same. Are we sure
it's T7 we are talking about ?

That is a very old mod (2003) and was one of the experimental
Vic,
Yes, it is that T7, and you have the current winding ratio. Some of the
earlier K2s used a 13 to 4 turns ratio - I am not certain when the
cut-over was made, but I believe it was in the low 1000 SN range.
Many of these early K2s have already been changed - I have done several

Hi all,
I'm experiencing the dreaded PC Speaker hum every time my K2 transmits, even
when power is dropped to about 2 W.
The speakers are Harmon Kardon amplified speakers and they do not hum when
turned off. Per other threads, I plugged the speakers' wall wart into the
same outlet as the K2
That assumes that the airflow is the predominant source of noise. In
my case, the airflow noise is secondary to what I believe is bearing
noise. At low speeds, this motor noise is what I hear mostly. It
is the same across 2 sets of UTEC fans.
I've posted a recording of my K3 fans at
The level on your recording is so low I can barely hear it
Joe, and it also will not display on my spectrum analyzer
software.
What I do hear sounds exactly like what I described below,
where I am talking about something being too close to the
blade tips. It does not sound like bearing noise
Hi Brian,
It's a more costly solution, but I ... and others ... swear
by the COMspkr(s) from West Mountain Radio. They
work well, and even sound pretty good when listening
internet radio stations.

I use COM speakers with my R5000 receiver and they sound great. Use better
hifi speakers through an amplifier with my K3. Mounted on the wall and
pointing at me. Such a pleasure to use for SSB and general coverage.

Almost any commodity computer speakers can be cleaned up
by adding a simple bypass cap across each of the speaker
leads. The most difficult cases respond to a basic pi-
section filter at each speaker output and on each input
channel.
I cleaned up all of my computer speakers by adding a .01

I use the Toyko Hy-Power 1.2KFX without ALC and my QRP K3. I can't overdrive
the amplifier and it works just great. My HL1.2 KFX is modified. I removed the
input attenuator from the HL1.2KFX so my 12 watts gives me 600 watts typical.
Remember, ALC feedback takes time, so the amplifier chain

Front and rear headphone jacks are identical in electrical performance.
They can handle headphones of a wide range of impedances.
