With the upcoming release of the KAT500, I was thinking that the K-line
would look slightly asymmetrical with the tuner sat on top of either the K3
or the Amp. So, how about a matching unit to the KAT500 to balance it all
up? It could house a series of forward facing buttons which could be band
Hi Rick Joe,
Rick, to the best of my knowledge, the CONFIG:SPKRS affects the rear speaker
jack and not the rear phone jack. The rear phone jack is always stereo. Of
course, I suppose it might be possible that Joe has accidentally plugged his
head phones into the rear speaker jack by mistake.
Or even a KAT500 size box so I could build my own switch box.

I agree, and would point out that there are two sides in the information
exchange.
Asking the right question, couched in the correct terms is also necessary.

Correct, Bert. Besides, I think most of us were using irons with wood burning

heat of a wood burning iron and a 25W soldering iron except for the recommended

And, fire extinguishers were probably

I am attempting to use CAT commands to program the K3 to go into something I
call remote or local mode (using HRD with macros assigned to buttons)
Basically, remote mode switches the MIC to Line in and sets the compression
to 0. What is missing is to set PTT.
Local mode, switches MIC to front
The IC command will give you what you want. Voice VOX status is

Do you have the ability to send a GET command and query the result? Then you
could use the VX getter to know what state you're in and issue SWH09 only if
you need to.
I have to do this quite a bit in the K3 Utility for K3 state that has only
toggles.

Our target is still $799 for the basic 160-6 meter/10 watt/all-mode

Hi All,
I am not replying specifically to Don's post but I do wonder if there

one wants to keep it simple. Yes tuning is nice. Access to CW/DVK

I thought you couldn't do that inn the k3 utility. I guess I could program a
macro and then just call this from HRD. I can't find any documentation on
HRD programming languages.
Perhaps I don't even need to switch to PTT and back. From the manual it
says that even if you VOX the PTT is active.
You can't do this with the macros. The K3 Utility itself has a lot of code
that queries the radio and follows different paths based on the rig's
responses.

Sorry for the delayed response, it has been a busy day and have not had

OK, the voltages on D11 seem out of wack - so check the tinning of L16

Hi
Maybe some one can answer this. I set my k3 to 60 watts and measure 60
watts on my kpa500 meter with the amp in standby trnsmitting into a dummy load.
When I switch to an antenna with a 3:1 swr the k3 still says 60 watts but the
kpa500 now reads 80 watts with the amp still in standby.
I have worked Bob,KP2/W1EQ on 10m.

Here's my take:
Most if not all RF power meters will only be accurate at a 1:1 SWR (when
there is resonance). The actual power can more accurately determined by
reading the voltage and current and then only if the amp efficiency is
known.
It's likely that neither the K3 or KPA500 meter is
