Hi all,
I've just had my new KX3 on air for the first time, but have been
plagued by an extremely annoying noise when tuning. The noise
is most obvious on 10 and 12m, but is audible down to at least
20; it sounds like a series of mushy clicks as I tune, and makes
tuning quite unpleasant.

I want to write two K3 macros, one for selecting the front panel Mic (MH2) and

Ron,
You correct that you need a common mode choke - maybe one at the antenna
and another at the point where the coax enters the house.
However, you cannot create that choke by winding wire around the coax,
but you can wind the coax through a toroid core.
See the information given by Jim Brown

Are you talking about a CFL, or a conventional fluorescent lamp? Many
newer fluorescent lamps come with an electronic ballast. These are
sometimes a problem, in that the ballast operates like a switching
power supply, and if not designed or built properly, can emit copious
amounts of noise.
The CFL's I've analyzed and disassembled have small switching power
supplies, usually running around 40-50 KHz.
If you are a VLF/LF listener, you can see the emitted signals up through
several hundred KHz. Many sidebands can be observed, at multiples of 60
Hz from the central frequency (which

My bad - I (too quickly) assumed this was about conventional fluorescents.

The KPA500 is actually more automatic than that.
The KPA500 will retune automatically any time the SWR reaches a certain

Leave the KAT500 in automatic mode for that to work.
