To Jim Brown,
Thanks for the recommendations about brand name coax and coax connectors.
Can you recommend brands and/or vendors for stereo cables with similar high
quality construction? Would be a great help. Many thanks.

Hi all,
I have KX3 s/n 5464 running firmware 1.79, I find that when I turn the radio
off I see a row of * astrix’s (can’t spell) appear on the VFO B display
area, reading the manual this would indicate that the KX3 has not shutdown
correctly, I have tried a forced firmware load but when I

I want to thank everyone for responding to my question on a VGA switch.
I have ordered a 2-Port VGA Monitor Switch Box from Monoprice that looks
like it will do nicely. Price = $9.20 each.

No. There are companies who sell cables at VERY inflated prices, but
that rarely correlates with quality. For example, most vendors of

I’m contemplating doing the K3 AF Output Mod (two 470 ohm resistors on the

Hi Jim,
The SVGA card actually performs its own, wider FFT of the I/Q data developed
in the P3 front end. If you want to take a picture of the SVGA screen, plug
a FLASH drive into the USB connector on the back of the P3/SVGA and then use

It is entirely possible that your ohmmeter is using polarity that is
different than normal for DMMs.
You *are* using a DMM are you not? If you are using a VOM or VTVM, stop
- the voltage used in those meters (ohmmeter function) may be high
enough to saturate semiconductor junctions and

I have a ongoing nuisance. On USB it seems high voices will pop/crack just
like if AGC was off and hitting the AF limiter. Reducing RF Gain clears it up.
Turning agc threshold down has no effect.
Is there a agc setting that might correct this? I haven't tried slope which is

Mike,
I don't know if it will help in your situation, but take a look at my
webpage www.w3fpr.com article on Noisy K3 for some guidance to setting
the AGC parameters. Yes, changing the slope may be helpful, but you
will have to experiment a bit.

comprehensive work description. I have done it for a long time. I will order

Mike,
An added note - when experimenting with the AGC settings, do take heed
of the information on how to evaluate the results of your changes -
listen between pauses in the signal rather than listening to the noise
on the band. Listening to the noise level without an intermittent

Let me add, I don't mind reducing rf gain more one on one BUT its aggravating
after a while in a group to turn it up and down for one or two guys with high

Seems AGC should do that?
Once again, it's like the high pitch voice is activating th AF limiter or a
similar sound. AGC
Mike,
The high pitched voices should have no connection with AGC. I would
suggest that those signals are off frequency. Using the RX EQ might
help, or reducing the HiCut may be the answer to make your RX more
comfortable.

I'm not sure I can explain this. But it's possible the problem is a
combination of two possible error sources:
1) I believe the XV50 leds are displaying power based on the voltage at
the final stage, and is not using a SWR bridge to measure forward power.
The W2 is measuring forward power, so
