Don,
I did not consider the inherent delay of the all digital time to process.
Thinking back on my gold standard of ssb monitor circuits, the TS-830S has zero
delay due to it being all analog. My TS-850 is similar, although much more
modern than the 830 the ssb monitor is still all analog
If you have somehow managed to turn off AGC (Menu: AGC MD OFF) while in
SSB mode, that would explain why NR is N/A. (If your LCD display shows

AGC MD is mode-specific, so if you turned it off while in SSB but not

Hi Tom,
Thank you for the help here! The NR showing N/A was caused by my having
the AGC off. I was unaware that killed the NR.
The feedback problem is not that simple... I believe it is feeding back
via the sound card... More as I narrow it down. Not a simple matter of
having the audio up...
Why do you feel the need to have the monitor tuned on?

It is actually better to hear yourself with a slight delay.
When you talk, you are not hearing yourself as others hear you due to something
called 'bone conduction'. You can actually hear yourself through the mastoid
bone. Have you ever listened to a recording of yourself and thought, That's

I have the capability to measure it, but I have not done so. If it's
going through any DSP, there will be some, probably a few msec. I would
not expect it to be a problem.
I haven't yet given up, I think there is a timing issue that just has a hard
time 'hearing' the proper spacing on certain letter combinations. Almost
like there is a latency and the machine is still 'forming' the previous
letter. Hard to explain, but I'm going to keep at it until I can figure out
