I think that building the K2 has to be an end in itself. I have more
pictures of various pieces taped to colored construction paper than I do
of the radio itself. Other pictures feature my method of winding
toroids. Then, at the end of building, you step over the "building
finish line" to
The funny SWR also appears with the ATU in circuit but not at the tuning PWR
level. It appears when the rig is in "normal" transmit mode after tuning. Bob
is likely right though - try turning the power down and see if results in
"normal" operation. You may find it power dependent - if so it
Based on your description, I'd say there is some instability in one of
the stages. The dummy load will present a uniform impedance at all
frequencies, thus the SWR will be 1:1. output network will show
evidence of reflected power. Using the ATU, it adds filtering thus

Beyond that, the manuals are VERY detailed and for most part as complete as one
could expect, HOWEVER, the builder needs to have the mental attitude to take a
step back and think like you are just starting and reread and recheck every
step. When you do, it IS a very rewarding experience and

Today, one came up on one of the ham swap lists. The asking price? "$1500 or a

If you are interested in building as well as operating it's a pleasant
experience. Just like a 10 mile hike, you do it one simple, easy step at a
time.
Those who seem to have had trouble just wanted a K2 to operate and tried to
put the kit together as quickly as possible without double-checking

Yes. I've noticed that as well, in that it occurred when a loud signal popped
into the passband! My AGC is always on with the affected K3.
That makes two of us.
So I now suspect that there is a common menu setting or front panel setting or
firmware setting that is causing this. I was afraid
My k3s occasionally does this too. I finally isolated the problem
initiator as a burst of very loud signals, such as occurs when listening
to a very weak DX station when a very strong (speaker rattling) station
plops on top of him followed by the loud frequency cops. The Sub Rx must

I received a call back from Elecraft Technical Support yesterday. It was quite
difficult to come together on exactly which screws and embedded PEM nuts I was
talking about in the bottom cover. Once we were in agreement on the screw

My old K3 occasionally switches from 2 speakers to 1 speaker (makes it really
tough to listen split chasing DX)!
Any ideas what may be causing this?
