I had the 50 MHz gain cal fail with the initial build of my K3s. Don't remember
which power. I repeated the cal several times and one time it passed. I left it
there. Not anxious to try it again.

I purchased Elecraft K3S S/N 11672 in August 2018. The build was completed in
November 2018. At that time all the tests and calibrations were completed
successfully.
Now the TX Gain Calibration fails on Low Power and High Power on 50 MHz. only.

I think instead I'll go the route of always leaving it in line, but that
method would certainly work too! Thanks, Paul!

Thanks, Scott!
I'm going to change the way I do things so that ATU is always in, and the
Palstar HF-Auto switches to AUTO mode rather than Manual to keep the match
seen by the KPA below 1.2:1

I wholeheartedly agree!
Don has helped so many with his vast knowledge and patience.
I have seen him at many Hamfests teaching the masses about Elecraft products.
His comments and answers to questions on this list go unmatched anywhere.

I suspect listening to the DX on the main receiver and the
pileup on the sub receiver came about with the radios which have
a better main than sub. (Not the K3(S)!) In this situation, you
want to use the good receiver for the weak DX station, and the
poorer for all the stronger pileup

For several months I have been losing the connection between the

Thanks so much for the info I will be trying it and other suggestions soon.

I am going to recommend Mike Blake K9JRI. He is an excellent diagnostician and
understands a schematic better than most folks. He’s also an experienced
networking engineer and administrator which goes a long way to solving some of
the issues that seem hardware based at first.

Well, someone already put Don Wilhelm at the top of this list. So I’ll add my
two:
Joe Subich and Jim Brown. Both of these guys have answered many questions about
so many topics, not just Elecraft. I have a lot of respect for their opinions.

Just a general comment on the KPA1500: My experience with it shows that the SWR
has to be below 1.2:1 at the amplifier output (ATU input) to run reliably at
full power. If the SWR is higher than that, the amp will often fault due to
excessive current or drive power before reaching 1500 W. (And

Henry,
Nice solution, but it considers only a connection to a PC. If that is
all you want, that is fine.
The KIO2 AUX I/O connector also contains internal K2 signals that are
used for an externally mounted KPA100/KAT100 as well as the XVseries
transverters.

Im running my k3 with transverters up to 5.7 Ghz. Its running fine
I ran into a puzzle however with VE3NEA’s Omnirig, in
that it stops reading at 1296 Mhz and doesn’t display anything
higher.
Looking at the INI file doesn’t seem to show anything that
should stop it.
Has anyone run into this
Jay,
Do you have the soundcard (AUDIO CODEC) properly defined as the
soundcard in your application software? That is the 1st step to check.
Secondly, are you driving the soundcard output audio to a sufficient
level to illuminate 4 bars solid on the ALC meter with the 5th bar
flashing?
Jay,
If you are in data A mode, the easiest thing to do is just turn on
your VOX. The tones will turn your transmitter on. Just make sure you
set the mike/line in setting so that there are 4 bars of ALC showing and
a 5th just flickering. You may need to adjust the VOX gain, but it
should
I have the KI03BU installed. No problem RX but unable to TX. I know there
has to be some settings I am missing.
This was installed at Elecraft.
