Pete,
I am still planning on stopping by after work around 3:30 unless I can get out
earlier.
I’m sure a second set of eyes will help.

My understanding is that WinWarbler relies on Commander, so you need both of
those up together. I have tried this approach too, without success.
With Barry's help earlier tonight I managed to get the K3s working in AFSK-A
mode and successfully able to send and receive conventional 45 Baud RTTY
I thought the shape factor of the 2.8kHz filter was 1.5 to 1 which is
impressive up front with good deep out of band pass rejection in excess of
70 dB. The DSP adds the final shaping to the signal that exceeds the
roofing filter spec and is therefore the most effective source of final
rejection.
I suggest getting each basic application running correct before moving to the
next application. When each will run correct then and only bring in the
integration application.

Try one more thing. Go into menu and increase the VOX gain, but before
you do that turn up the mic gain; this is actually line in level at this
point. I'm suspecting that you might be operating with too low a level
going in to the radio or VOX gain is too low. I sure hope this is the
fix, 'cuz
VOX is engaged, the correct codec is selected, but nothing puts the radio in
PTT mode. It’s using the same codec as it does when sending voice keying files,
which transmit just fine. The radio is not switching into transmit.
What’s even more worrisome is how WinWarbler is not putting the K3s
H. Interesting. The first thing that comes to mind is that your
tones are not getting to the radio. Check to see that you are directing
your tones to the radio's built in sound card. You should be going out
on USB CODEC SPEAKER. Next turn you VOX on. If you are sending tones,
the VOX will

In theory (I have not tried it), one could send an AI2; command to the
Master K3, to enable "AUTO INFO mode 2," then connect the two K3s to each
other using a male-to-male null-modem cable (pins 2 and 3 crossed). Then
the Slave K3 should track the Master K3.

Well a very, very small bit of progress. Using Commander’s main page, mode
selection box, if I press RTTY then the K3s goes into the correct mode (AFSK-A,
with the filters applied). I am able to decode cleanly, so RX is working fine.
Still unable to go into transmit via DX Labs, however. As a
Hello Again,
Thanks to all who responded. I found the answer:
The "SAVE" button in the K3 Utility Macro Editor writes directly to the

Hi Rich,
I didn’t realize that the MAIN:MIC+LIN setting is disabled in data modes. Right
now, with the radio in Data mode, AFSK-A, Mic Sel is set to LInE In, and
Mic+LIN is flagged not APPL.
Commander is running and interfaces perfectly with the radio. The RTTY sub-mode
box is (and has
Tony,
The filter shape factor is not stated, but there are filter plots on the
Elecraft website.
The filer shape factor for the roofing filters is not critical as it is
in an analog receiver. In the K3/K3S, the final filter shape and shape
factor is determined by the DSP filters which

Tom,
As instructed in the KAT1 manual, refer to page 31 of your K1 manual and
see if R39 is present. If not, add it. In either case, solder C76
across R39 - one capacitor lead to each resistor lead.
Do the trace cut as shown in the diagram on page 8 - I can't describe it

G'day,
Can someone tell me where the K3 Utility Macro Editor saves its data files?
Or what file type is used? I'm using Win 10. The help files don't seem to
mention it, and an Internet search came up empty.
I find the saved configuration files, and the K3 Frequency / Memory Editor

Before I go cutting into the RF Board (Revision D, year 2000) and soldering

soldered to the board and additionally solder the leads of RF-C76 onto

I use Winwarbler for all non-contesting RTTY (chasing DX), and I rarely

(I work RTTY and several WSJT modes). Indeed, I've never used hardware PTT.

I don't know why setting up RTTY using AFSK and a K3s is yielding the
level of problems it appears to be. It should be just another digital
mode. The only difference should be is to set the radio to AFSK vice

First, in Data modes, do *not* set MAIN:MIC+LIN to ON. As Joe has
explained, you need to set MAIN:MIC+LIN to OFF and MAIN:MIC SEL to LINE.
When you are using WinWarbler, all radio control functions are handled by
Commander. Commander must be running, and must be interfaced with the
radio. The
