I used my K3S driving my KPA1500 on Saturday during Makrothen and state QSO
parties with no issues. I have the integration cable and RG-8X for the RF path.
Sunday AM with the K3S set to 22 W, the KPA1500 was outputting 22 W more or
less, not the 750 W I expected and got the day before.

Where I live in MO there are several local E-waste recyclers.
Here is a link that may find you one in your area -

Their website is not responsive to your Zip code, but web search finds -

Two more things to consider -
a) how long is the lead on the prospective head phone? A lot of those for
mobile phones and iPods, etc. are too short for my radio on the operating
position table and my behind in the station chair.
b) ambient noise cancelling - I like the $111 class Monoprice
that the 32S3B transmitter has very low 2-tone IMD
compared with most of the recent TX that use solid state drivers and finals.
Yes, I did have an S-Line station for 15 years, but now it is K-Line.

My alpha 87a was purchased as a refurbished unit in 2012. It has an external
fan on the rear of the chassis, and the floating blower inside the chassis. I
had not until today realized that the fan on the back is the external fan
recommended for RTTY use - it came that way and I don’t recall
is that the KPA1500 PA temp rose to about
64C so that the deck fans were at Step 2. During a recent RTTY contest, the
deck rose above 70C and the fans were running at Step 3 pushing a lot of warm
air out of the vent holes above the heat sink.

The last time I visited SLAC was about a decade ago. They were busy
building the nearly perfect aluminum coated quartz spheres that are the
essence of the free rotor gyroscopes flying on Gravity Probe B. I think the
analogy regarding the sphericity was something like if the spheres were as

I think the main reasons homebrew has become so challenging are access to
small quantities of parts (thanks to Mouser for ovecoming this to some
degree), and the challenges of assembly for small lead sizes and spacing.
The steady hands of pick and place machines and solder reflow allow this
My 75S-3B cost about 1/8th of what my 1969 Corvette cost. So, I should be
able to buy a nice receiver today for about $6,000. A 30S-1 cost about 1/3
of what the Corvette cost, so I should be able to buy a new amplifier today
for about $17,000. However, getting this approved by the family CFO is
