Honestly VFO A is perfect with the neoprene ring, but VFO B is a just a tad too
small and needs a neoprene ring too, IMHO. For my taste, a neoprene ring for
VFO B would solve the size issue. But then, I am just a user of the product.

Hi Fred,
No need to remove the knob.
Just remove the existing rubber ring (use a small toothpick or something that
won't scratch the knob)to make space between the knob and rubber until you can
grip the rubber) and replace it with the new one. That's how I did it.
Good luck,

Hi Scott,
I have the same problem and have not been able to solve it
It worked perfectly for a few days and then it developed the symptoms you
described - plus the auto power select stopped working on the K3 (rig no longer
goes from high power to low power when the KPA500 is enabled). I

The recent ARRL review of the upgraded synthesizer performance is available in
the current issue of QST. That, by far, is the biggest change in the K3S vs.
the K3 (not that there aren't other changes, such as cw performance, LF rx,
etc.)

I found a thin piece of neoprene works just great to keep a key in place,
almost no matter how hard you bang on it!!! It's like a mouse pad, only
thinner and not as large. A mouse pad works great, too!
My Hex has not moved in over a year, hi!!!

Bill,
I upgraded the synth and have not noticed any difference whatsoever. That is
not to say there is none, only that I could not tell any difference since I
could not do any A/B comparisons. I am very skeptical of those who claim to
have noticed a difference without having done an actual A/B
Hi Mark,
Yes, I have been using the settings recommended by Fred Cady - KE7X and think
they are great:
Set 50 Hz at -16db
Set 100 Hz at -16db
Set 200 Hz at 0db
Set 400 Hz at +6db
Set 800 Hz at +6db
Set 1600 Hz at 0db
Set 2400 Hz at -16db
Set 3200 Hz at -16db

Unless we know what work was required, it is impossible to tell if the $1k bill

Agreed (but not meaningless)!
The additional narrow cw filters clearly provide a BIG improvement over the
wider SSB Filters(e.g., the 400 HZ filter shows a 16 db improvement in 3IMDDR
and 35 db improvement in BDR over the stock 2700 Hz SSB Filters). Meaning it
is very helpful to cw operators

Thanks for the figures. I am trying to understand the amount of improvement we
can expect.
According to the ARRL Review in January 2009 the IMDDR was 106/103 dbm at 2 KHZ
but the Reciprocal Mixing was -86dbc at 2KHZ offset with 500 HZ bandwidth.
