Does anyone use the Tokyo High Power linear amp (HL-1.5kfx) with their K3? If
you do I need to ask how you connect the auto band switching to the linear with
the K3?
The manual doesn't refer to the K3 at all but refers to Kenwood. It appears to
use a Serial connection from the rig to the amp
Everyone.
The KIO2 is sold. However anyone needing a top cover with speaker for the K2
make me an offer.

I have the following item for sale:
The top cover for the K2 containing a speaker, KIO2 Serial Interface, and KAT2
Antenna tuner.
Comes with all manuals. Will sell complete or seperate. I built the units and
they are fully tested.
Looking for $225.00 plus shipping or best offer within reason.
John,
Setting your power control to 110 watts will produce about 28 watts of carrier
power and about 78 watts peak which is normal. I have received very good audio
reports on AM both running barefoot or using my linear and limiting my carrier
power to no more then 120 watts.
I am assuming you
Thanks David. The PCB inside does have the LOAD and INPUT connectors labeled.

Gary, you are right, but if you forget to look at the PC Board,it is easy to

Dick,
Thanks for the input and I stand corrected. I myself have never had a
problem with an up-date. However, I still maintain that be safe when
up-dating by leaving the system alone during the process. Having worked on
software operated atomic particle accelerator systems and having the

Everyone,
The new beta completly solved the problem of no output in Digital A mode after
tune. The sinc AM also really works nice. Thanks Elecraft.

When operating in digital A modes after holding the TUNE button, which gives
the proper power out indication, the following happens when going into PSK
transmit:
1, There is no power out of the K3
2, The ALC readout is showing the usual 3 bars and can be adjusted
3, There is no monitoring tone (
After installing 3.52 i also notice noise clicks when making width adjustments
in SSB CW and Didital mode (Digital-A). I do not have my NB or NR on. This
noise is only present with signals. with no signals there is no noise when
adjusting width.

Everyone,
I installed Beta 3.44 (was at 3.42) and noticed the following:
When operating in TX DATA (DATA A Mode) I fine that my RF Output seems to
really take a long time to properly adjust itself to the desired power out.
Sometimes there is no output power even though the K3 is in transmit.
I have a LP-PAN module, and a Creative E-MU-0202 USB sound module for sale.
Modules work fine and the E-MU module comes in it's origonal box with all
software and USB cable.
Also include a home built set of cables to interconnect the modules
Asking $225.00 shipping included in USA.
Please
The LP-Scan system has been sold.
Thanks and 73

Everybody,
After receiving my K3 and moving it in my main station I found I don't have any
need for my extra K2 (I still have a K2-100 in the downstairs station).
This K2 is the qrp model with 11.5 watts out on all bands (plus some) and about
10.5 watts out on 10 meters at 28.388 MHZ.
This k2
Everyone,
How do I display my FP and Heat Sink temperatures on the front Panel?
I did the calibration and the book explains that you tap Display and use XFO B
to select the temperature reading you want displayed.
When I tap Display all I can select is Time, Date, Current, and Voltage. No
temp
Okay people I have a question.
How do I get more then 2 watts out of my K3 on FM?
I have the FM filter installed and turned on. I have the FM filter bandwidth
set at 13 KHZ..
I can tune successfully and put out power in all modes except FM (2 watts out
max.
The MF mode is working I checked it
Here is an update on my low power out on fm.
With all filter in place and with several checks on configuration and reloading
the radio's firmware I had no success in getting out any more then 2 watts out
max on FM.
I removed the FM filter and replaced it with a .001 UF capacitor. I was
Anyone,
I will soon be receiving my K3 and I do have a question.
Normally my computer line out connects to my computer speakers. When I get my
K3 is there a speaker connection on the K3 that will also output audio out from

Well after all the information on this thred and being an owner I finally
ordered my K3-100.
Looking forward to using it in 08

To All,
First to the good people at elecraft, congratulations on shipping the K3s.
Second:
This may have been presented to the forum before but I have not seen it.
Be careful with exposing your K2 to strong magnetic fields, especially ones
from power transformers.

Thanks for your reply Geoff.
I think that the reason the screws loosen isn't because of twisting out, but
because the heat sink material that is placed between the power transistors
and the heat sink is cold flowing.
Many plastics will, under pressure, actually flow a bit and change it's

After looking at your picture I think I would only replace C227, Clean up the
board around it, then test it out (in a dummy load). Don't think the relay is
gone but those type of capacitors do sometimes fail. In your case you were
trying to couple good VSWR into the rig but haven't
Bob,
I have just finished my K2 a few days ago and there is a lot I can relate to
your question about RFC15.
First and most important, these chokes are very fragile and can open up
quite easily just by flexing the leads too much.
Second I also found the size of these chokes from brown to
Ben,
I just finished building my KPA100 and it is quite happy in the K2 at this
time. I agree with your observation of the milled out hole on the heat sink.
I tried placing a lock washer between the heat sink and standoff (against
Elecraft instructions) which resulted in not having the screws
Bernie,
On My K2 (#5779) if I change frequency on the same band and wait for 10
seconds the K2 puts that new frequency in memory so when the rig is powered
off , then back on it returns to the frequency it was last on. If you
change the frequency within the same band and quickly power the rig

It is 30 seconds I told you 10 seconds by mistake. I just teated it on my

I have been working in electronics for over 30 years and I find that though
rosin flux is somewhat inert under normal conditions it can lead to
corrosion in certain circumstances. On all my portions of the K2 system I

Your website is great!! There is a wealth of information there and I have
just started to learn from it. I have just completed my K2 and am doing a
lot of learning and enjoying the rig a lot.
One thing I might comment on is the Spectrogram program you offer a link to.
Well I needed to
With stock construction (with C91, .001uf, C88, 68pf and RC15, 100uh choke

After contacting Elecraft I was told to remove RC15 and replace it with a
wire and shorten the leads of C88. The VCO instablity was still there.

I am trying again with another test message.

Tom,
I just finished building my electaft and I agree with you about the LCD
display. On mine there was a very thin clear plastic film that was easy to
peel off but underneath the LCD module ewas a translucent plastic coating.
I attempted to peel it off but it was rwally glewed on so I
When I operate my K2 between 7180 and 7190 Khz the VCO seems to worble or
becomes unstable. Any other band or frequency is fine. I have removed RFC15
and replaced it with a direct wire connection then later a ferrite bead.
C91's value was increased from .001 uf to .01 uf. c*88 is still 68pf
