I tune to 10,000,002 and adjust REF CAL for 20 beats in 10 seconds, or as
close to 20 as I can get, with the granularity of the ref cal steps. In the

Hello Dave,
I did have the same
Given the casual usage you describe, I don't think you need any
options. You can always install filters, etc., later, if you
find a need develops. If any of your loads (amplifiers, antennas)
are over 2:1 SWR, you will want the tuner.

The speaker amp is U1 on the DSP Board. The IC is an LM4950TS.
The pins are very closely spaced, too close for me.
Elecraft now has an Audio Protection Assembly circuit board, Part
Number E850506 for $2.36 plus shipping.

Bob,
It's not on the web site. I heard about it indirectly, sent them
an email, got the part number and price, then called up and
ordered two, one for each of my K3's. I haven't installed them
yet.

the pins are very close together. If you know an excellent
soldering technician, maybe they could do it for you. Otherwise,
you have to send the radio, or just the DSP Board, for repair.

Astron linear supplies also have a simple (internal) voltage
adjustment, so you can pump the voltage up to 14.5 for reduced

The main board in my kit had a component that was improperly
soldered. It was explained to me at the time that the defect was
not detectable in board-level testing. Maybe that testing has
improved over time.
