Bob,
Dang those engineers at Elecraft. This problem already
existed in my K2... you'd assume they had found and fixed
the problem by now, right?
My shack buddy basically laughs at me, as he doesn't have
this problem. Fred, you're hearing things that arent even
there, so please stop yapping at
CQ CQ CQ
Can we all relax a bit and stop bickering about the
delays, the lack of communications about them and
whether it's a Brit of Yank thing to 'claim one's
right' ?
Elecraft have acknowledged that they should have
more (and better) communications to their customers,
and they have indeed

I tend to agree... my 1972-era PDP-11 systems all have
D-shell connectors for most I/O, and guess what, they
still work fine. And yeah, that's slightly
Apologies for going OT !
Is Gregg W9DHI here by chance? If so: Gregg, pse reply off-list !

Hi,
I use a Kenwood F7E (2m/70cm with wideband all-mode
receive, nice to monitor HF) and it works like a
charm, both on the duck (I don't use the Kenwood
duck, but, rather, a Diamond SRH-999 mini-duck) as
well as on external ants through SMA.
Of all my handies (yes, I do have a few), I still
Hiyas,
As I was falling asleep last night dreaming of a k3(OK,
stop laughing)...
We're not laughing... we understand. So, you, too, eh? :P
Who makes the PC Boards?
Who stuff's the boards? (or what ever you do to surface mount
components) Who checks the boards?
Who fixes the boards?

Tony,
I'm using a RigExpert S/D with my K2/100. Currently with just the
SPKR and MIC connections for audio (which is messy), and hopefully
using the MiniDIN on the BLQ interface as of sometime this week
(thanks Doug !) - just to make for simpler cabling.
The RE is nice, small, and USB-based.
I use a 60-amp switcher from Diamond (GSV-6000) for driving
both the K2/100 *plus* the HLA-300 amp (45A) without any
issues. The supply is clean.
One note: most smallish generators (think 'field day' !) do
hate this power supply. I have seen 3KVA diesel units go
into a panic mode when the GSV
I did that about a year ago, works fine. I ordered a bunch of
different screws from Lisa (the one that goes underside the VFO
knob, to lock down the multiturn pot) and then did the job of
cautiously 'drilling' the sink-angles.
The body DOES get a little weaker this way, but it's still fine
Group:
How about adding an extra pre-drive stage with automatic
gain which takes anywhere from 5-50W and drives it to the
level needed for full (800 resp. 1800W) output?
That's how some of the other amps seem to do it. If you
feed it 5W, the pre-drive stage does its 10dB thing first.
If you

All,
I have been taking the K everywhere I go, and never had an
issue with customs or TSA. I *do* carry my license (both the
U.S. and European one), and each bag (both checked and carryon)
contain a copy of those, with the text:
ATTN TSA:
THIS BAG CONTAINS (DELICATE) RADIO
FCC MODIFIES AMATEUR RADIO SERVICE RULES, ELIMINATING MORSE CODE EXAM
REQUIREMENTS AND
ADDRESSING ARRL PETITION FOR RECONSIDERATION
Yip !
Just in time, my General exam results are about to expire!

Hi all,
This part costs about EUR 1.40 here in Europe (US$ 1.80), and can be
found pretty much anywhere.
Cheers,

Bill (and others),
Yes, your proposed solution works, but here's some more alternatives:
- grab one of those embarrasingly cheap USB-to-Serial sticks, plug that
into the laptop's USB port, and voila, there's your DB9
- when going remote control, you could use HAM Radio Deluxe, which is

Hiyas all,
Looking to expand the K a little bit more, and pretty much the only
thing that would still fit is the DI addon, by PaulĂ EA3BLQ (SK).
Does anyone still have some his boards available, either just the
boards, in kit or finished forms?
Thanks and 73,
Fred
