While waiting for parts to fix my KPA100 and KAT100, I was checking out my K160RX. The situation is that at 12W out the K2 (KSB2, KNB2, KDSP2, K106RX, KIO2) draws 2.5 amps. With power set at anything above that, it exceeds 4.5 amps and I get a Hi CUR warning (limit set at 4.5 amps).

What's the purpose of the 5.6k resistor? I use a Ten Tec 701 hand microphone with no resistor with good audio. I use a Ten Tec 706 desk microphone with no resistor but it loses some of it's lows. Tried substituting a 9v battery fo0r the bias voltage, but it made no difference in the audio.

Stewart and Don and anyone else - I've gotten back to trying to fix my VOX. It seems that with any microphone the VOX wants to key the radio until shut off. Sometimes right away, sometimes after a bit. Disconnecting the microphone doesn't help. PTT works fine. I have followed Don's advice
