If you disconnect the ground connection to the average PC, the chassis
will sit at half supply potential above ground.
That's potentially 120V between your computer and radio, more than
enough to damage the radio.

Most new amateur radio operators start with the no-code Technician
Class operator license. Some newcomers, however, begin at the General
Class. A few even begin at the Amateur Extra Class.
That they start with the Extra class license doesn't necessarily mean that they
didn't have to do
Datong (www.datong.co.uk) are now in the surveillance business.
Unfortunately they never released schematics for their amateur products
and often ground off the part numbers from the chips.

In the UK, it's unlikely that anybody under the age of 25 or so knows

This adds another turn to the toroid, 1/2 a turn at each end..
No. You can't have half a turn on a toroid. It's only an extrsa turn if
it passes through the middle. You can do as you please with the ends.
If a toroid has been wound backwards, it is best to strip
And how exactly is audio from the speaker going to travel BACKWARDS
through the audio amplifier?

If you take the audio directly off the AF gain pot, you will pick up

Listen to yourself transmitting into a dummy load on another decent
receiver with headphones and adjust your carrier insertion oscillator
or filter (whichever you do on an Ele) for best audio.

Buy a KPA800 AND a KPA1500 and get full legal output for 5W drive.
Sounds ideal.

Most people, I would imagine, build primarily as a means of saving money.
There's no point in building something if I can buy something similar

Sokay Paul, you're entitled to voice an opinion.
It must also be remembered that most amateurs are not on this reflector.
Most of those here will be keen constructors. I tend to buy the rig,
pull it apart to see how it works (or doesn't work, after I've finished

Hi Ken.
My pooter doesn't have any serial ports so I use USB/serial adaptors.
Have you found any Linux (Fedora Core 3 but it shouldn't matter which
distro) drivers for there adaptors?

But remember that, you spending a fortune on a big amplifier isn't going

It just frustrates the other station
Have you asked Yaesu?
