I bought my two K3s because I tried the K3 at Watsonville and I liked it. But
let's not kid ourselves there are radios but more expensive and cheaper that
are
just as good...I have them all

Brian, I will only take a small issue with you. I agree we should support
any company that brings good, cost effective products to the HAM market. And
yes the company should support these products for a reasonable period of time.
But as soon as these products become non competitive, just
The numbers are there and pretty straight forward. What they really are saying
is that unless you are operating under very stressful conditions, you can pony
up your money and take your choice. I have 2K3s, 1 Eagle, 1 TS590, 1 ORION ll,
and 1 FT5K. And I have many other radios. At this level
Just some simple questions. Why use an 813 for an amp. 125 watt plate
dissipation, 50 watts of heater power, and a large physical size. The
modern
572b uses 25 watts for heater power has 225 watts dissipation and is cheap. I
have two SB200s they put out 800 watts PEP and they can be
No. No. What Elecraft should do is publish all of its source including the
programing notes and use that as the manual. And then offer the NIFTY MANUAL
as another part of the documentation you get with the radio. That should make
guys at both ends of the documentation spectrum happy.
Well after only two days [!] of playing it goes like this in my book.K3
then TS 590 then the Eagle, BUT, as the famous expression goes, I would hate to
live on the difference. Because of the simplicity of operation, the Eagle is a
fun radio and would make some mobile rig. I am afraid that
Sitting next to my K3s are a new Ten Tec Eagle and a new Kenwood TS 590s. I
expected the Eagle to be good, but the Kenwood is a surprise, wow.
Anybody want info, you may email me.
Thanks

First I have 2)K3s and I highly respect and like the folks at Elecraft. I
agree with weight and size and knobs (thing about this... there are more
knobs on the K3 than one might think), but the cost is not a great deal
different when you option up the K3 to the same features as the 5K.
One of my programmer employees once said to me when I asked why is this beta
taking so long to clear...he said It takes longer to debug software than
to write it. AMEN!!

As we know from marketing 101 you price a product to the market or cost.
Elecraft is pricing to the market. We guys are just eating up their products.
The Asian competition is shooting themselves in the foot at every turn. There
is some domestic competition, I even own some but..
I use my K3 in a diversity mode paired with an ORION ll. My K3 is a single
receiver with no P3. You talk about flexibility and performance, as far as I
am concerned this is it. Two great receivers, and a third OK receiver, band
scope, two transmitters so I can taylor the audio, and the

Mike, all bands, any bands? SSB and CW? If you have a UPS, pug IMAC into it
without plugging UPS into AC. We have to find out if it is radiated or
conducted RFI.
And thanks for the info, we also have macbook pros and ipads here with no
problems at 1500 watts pep. I was going to buy a new
This kind of problem is either real simple to solve or real difficult there is
no in between. I know that is not very technical, but it sometimes it is the
nature or RFI.
If you try any fixes, do them one at a time. This way we will know which one
works. It is strange that all three radio
The best over voltage protection is a 4 component circuit using a SCR, a ZENER,
a resistor, and a capacitor. Oh yes, a fuse also! Since the circuit goes
across the supply to ground, it does not carry output current nor effect normal
power supply operation

I have several of the MFJ-4125 supplies and several of the ASTRON 20 and 35
amp models. The only ones I have trouble with have been the ASTRONs. Random
failures even when not under load. Go figure. MFJsrock solid.

The fuse is used to prevent secondary failure. Fast response fuses are timed

across the output of their power supply to test the current limiting point?
