I knew conditions had improved when I got reports of poor
propagation. Poor is much better than non-existent :) QSB was
prevalent; moderate speed with signals running from ESP to S3, or S3 to
S7. Closer stations had a little flutter on top.

sunspot number is over 160. However, the large group from last week is

predicting another round at the G5 level. Communications below 30 MHz

view is much greener. More flowers but no hummingbirds at the feeder.

melting above me so streams are full. The ground was dry enough to let

my southern, western, and northern boundaries. The seasonal stream in
the NW corner is flowing with one to two inch waterfalls. Just off the

seeing more hunters than elk. A longer range forecast has snow in a few
weeks from a cold front moving south. Power was out for a few hours due

the rest of the time it has been foggy, rainy, and gloomy. Almost all
of the bracken ferns are yellow, gold, or bronze. Leaves have mostly
changed to some shade of yellow with a slight tinge of orange.

arrived early from Georgia to Michigan to Oregon. I had to break the
ice on the birds' water basin this morning. They were skidding across
the surface when they hopped off of the landing branch.

V formation, but most are not. The elk are taking advantage of the
paths I opened; the ground is chewed up with hoof prints. A bobcat or a

The rainy season began early this year; the last week was chilly,

the water basin next to me. Three common species are the Oregon Junco,

last of the large cedar trees were cut before WWII but the soil is made
from generations of their needles and fallen timber. I took my laptop
out into the forest to call a Pileated woodpecker. He flew in and

Twenty meters had slow, medium QSB. The band was quiet which is
never a good sign. Very few storms on either 20 or 40. Forty meters
had a little QSB with more noise.
Next week is Field Day so there will be no net. In two weeks we
will try this again.

The fir trees have two to three inches of bright green new growth.
The ferns are between six and ten feet tall but not done unrolling. The
hummingbirds returned and brought friends. It is quite busy right now,
I have to duck when I walk out the door. They enjoy flying at

fast on others. There seemed to be one thunderstorm to the southeast.
On forty meters there were more storms. Sometimes the crashing
obliterated parts of words. Mostly it added pointy shaped dits now and

It rained yesterday. Very slow though very little, mostly fog
condensing on the trees. The forest is much more green today. More
birds have moved in but the hummingbirds seem to have moved off. Their
newly filled feeder hangs untouched.

Twenty meters had moderate QSB with fair to weak signals. Forty
meters was weak except to Moscow, ID :) Topics ranged from yard work,
to wind, then smoke due to wildfires. There was a thunderstorm between
me and the Southeast on twenty meters. On forty the storms were in
