Hi Wayne,
many thanks for that comments.
It is good to know that USSF troopers are equipped with your KX2, lol...
I am using KX3 in backpack in similar conditions (except copter crash) and I
have to confirm that
it survived everything and works like champ. The only size and weight is

Most any wire you put up can be made to radiate. The problem is
matching the feedpoint to the feedline. If you want to use coax for the
feedline, you must provide a proper matching network at the antenna
(balun or otherwise). Open wire line can be used with a matching
network in the shack.
Thanks for sharing this Wayne. That was our experience in SE Asia in
the 60's too, sans KX2 of course. If we could get the dipole 6-10'
high, we were good for both the day and night in-country nets and could
also work our HQ & Maintenance Depot at Clark AB in the Philippines 24

Hi all,
I forwarded a few questions from HF Pack list members to a Special Forces
commander whose unit has been using KX2s in the field for three years. He
passed along the following additional comments:

The K4 was exactly what I expected to see. The combination of my K3's great
performance with super smooth CW keying and the P3 pan adapter all rolled into
one. It's great to see everything in a single package with a large display. I
I noticed that at the top of the (new?) Elecraft web page there is a “Contact

I just wanted to share some comments on the new PR6-10 Pre-amplifier that I
just purchased from Elecraft and installed on my K3. On 6 meters I am
using a SteppIR 3 element beam, with passive 6 meter element, mounted at
approximately 40 ft.
Installation and set-up is easy, just follow the

Well...not out of line Bill but George, W6GF is the one that bases his
opinion of transceiver selection solely on the audio reports he gets
from DX stations? If that were the case, the Collins S-Line would be
the best radio ever made (no I don't want to debate the audio

Comment on what? Other than his statement about the audio he doesn't
say anything about why he rates one rig over another, so how would it be
possible to judge? And if he doesn't like the transmit audio on the K3
with all of the tailoring it allows, it's pretty obvious he doesn't know

I would suggest that ALL modern ERA radios have redeeming factors and the
user base will come to 'love' one and that will usually lead to overall
satisfaction.
As long as there is healthy debate on radio performance the engineers and
sales departments of all manufacturers will continue to strive
and anyone would be proud
and pleased to own one.
