Jeff, If you are using a tuner in your antenna line, ground that instead of the K2 0 the K2 will be grounded by the coax connection. Grounding the case of ham equipment can be for one of 2 reasons - first concern is an AC safety ground, but that is not required with DC powered equipment, that

Does the K2 have a circuit or PCB (main board) layer, or signal that one could call a ground plane? Or does a common ground plane or layer or signal - connect from board to board? So that if one grounded his rig, to an actual earth ground rod - all of these K2 circuits would be commoned to that.

Fred, There should be no mental connection between an earth ground and a signal return path - they are different things altogether. They may be connected together at some point, but that is usualy best accomplished at a single point lest circulating currents (and the resulting elusive ground

Don - The US Electrical Code Book (whatever year they are now working to) - makes a big distinction between all of these so called grounds. When vendors, like the IC-7000 put a hefty ground lug on their case - I'm assuming they expect prudent hams to have a copper coated ground rod outside of

I prefer to pre-tin the crystal cans before installing the crystals. That way I can concentrate on doing one thing at a time. Like Don, I use about an 800F iron with a flat tip. Once there's a thin area of solder on the can where I'll want to put the ground wire, it's much easier and faster to
