Joe - I'll send you the data capture with screen shots this time. The K3 and
TS-850 settings were identical to the Microham MK2R+/DXLabs config guide and
still are. I still *never* use the 850 when DXLabs is running, as the second
radio is only used during contests with N1MM, where everything
I have both DXLab and the MK2R+ set up per the documentation in both. Yet,
the MK2R+ busy light indicating two radios on same band comes on constantly.
The second radio is never turned on, yet the problem occurs constantly.
Cycling power on the MK2R+ solves the problem for a few minutes - any QSY
I have taken it up with both on the DXLab reflector. Dave said he can't
investigate SO2R box issues and I understand that. Joe referred me to the
documentation for MK2R+ with DXLabs and I changed all settings to that
document, problem still occurs. I sent Joe some log files but no solution.

As I recall, you are not configuring the Commander portion of DXLab
Suite correctly - specifically, you are not configuring the radios
(K3 and TS-2000) individually on separate ports with Commander's
Multi-Radio tab and selecting radios with the radio buttons on
Commander's primary screen.
Larry,
There are possible reasons why one station works and another does not, and
there seems to be little that can be done about it without knowing specific PC
hardware being used and what other software might be in use.

Thanks for all the responses. Per Elecraft, it looks like 4.48 will go
production in a few days, after some changes to the K3 utility are dealt
with.
On the HRD front, many of us had submitted fix the K3 interface to the
prior HRD ownership and it was on the ToDo list - but the prior owner had
John,
Have you posted your problem on the DXLabs group? Dave, AA6YQ, the
DXLabs author, is very good at working out issues. Also Joe, W4TV, is
a resident expert.

I actually switched to DXLabs and found the K3 interfacing much
better - but it has a problem with my use of the Microham MK2R+
which I've been unable to solve - so back to HRD.
As one who uses DXLab Suite. MK2R+ and the K3, there is no issue with
DXLab Suite and MK2R+ when both products are
This string has been extremely informative as I just received the Remoterig and
I will be running it with a computer at the remote site. I am still trying to
figure whether to use TRX Manager or HRD as the rig control software. This
discussion is giving me a lot to think about.

If you haven't already done so, take that up with AA6YQ and W4TV, both
of whom are on the DXLabs Yahoo reflector. Both are
I work in Internet security and have an ingrained bias against using any beta
software. However, I use the HRD software that occasionally zaps my K3 AGC
settings, and putting a P3 inline seems to have exacerbated the problem. Not
fun when AGC gets turned off on strong signals...
It looks like
John,
we have used 3 K3s on FW 4.48 during Russian DX Contest (SO2R) and WPX
SSB (V55V M/2) with some 10.000 QSOs without any issues concerning the
firmware.

No problems that I'm aware of and I've used it since it was beta.
I'm a retired IT developer so I understand your feelings about beta stuff, but
I've never had a problem with the K3 betas. I just make sure I save the current
configuration of the K3 before updating the firmware.

I'm a retired IT developer so I understand your feelings about beta

be a *lot* of HRD apologists out there...

The latest firmware beta fixed my AGC issue with HRD. According to the
notes, Elecraft made it more difficult for a bad command to accidentally
disable the AGC. It appears that HRD was hammering the serial port quite a
bit and that was sometimes resulting in a defective message that tripped

While tinkering with the HRD settings (in terms of poll rate) helped
reduce the problem, it never entirely went away until the K3
firmware update fixed it once and for all.
HRD's rig control component was very poorly written. I gave Rick and
other involved persons specific documentation of

Again, I never experienced this issue when using LP-Bridge to

Just wanted to put in a 'plug' for my friend Laurent who wrote (writes)
TRX-Manager...
I have found it to be exemplary with the K3 (Laurent has one) - worth a
test-drive;
not free but reasonable trx-manager.com
It operates the SteppIR, rotator, amp, log, DX-Cluster and the K3 all
together
