hi Wayne, we have had a discussion about adding a Pactor controller to the K3 earlier.
Now when my K3 was complete with all parts I wanted to add I jumped in and added a TrxPtc. There is enough room behind the IO and XVR boards to add the TrxPtc board. Behind the main board I had to drill one 3mm hole into the KRX3 top cover to attach a standoff for the Bluetooth module. (the hole for the second standoff is already there) I used the hole for the REF input to add an SMA antenna socket for the bluetooth antenna. To switch the Ptc on and off I had to drill a hole into the back panel beside the fans, just below the 20A switch. Above this fuse I had to drill another hole for a 5mm Duo LED for a visual feedback on the status of the Ptc and the BT connection. All in all the task was not easy but it could be done without damage to the K3 and it works great. The K3 does a really good job in Pactor with a clean signal and vy good RX quality which gives a fast throughput especially in Pactor 3 mode. I'll look at the transmitted spectrum later, I don't have the necessary equipment. I want to thank Detlef DL1GJ, who was very helpful with sharing his experience (he was the first I know who built the TrxPtc into the K3) and he also gave me the SMA connector + antenna) and to Martin, DL1ZAM from SCS for technical assistance and Gary from Elecraft support who encouraged me to drill the holes ;-) I really have to bow my back before you and your team for this wonderful radio, which is so well constructed that even an amateur like me is able to add something for his needs - and it works! 73! de Werner OE9FWV -- Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional.
