Bill,
Another issue with BNC connectors to take into account is that 50 ohm 75
ohm BNC male connectors have a very slightly different diameter on the
male
center pin. The larger one (don't remember which one) can expand the
female
center socket. If you switch
Hi George, Charlie
Thanks George as your comment about BNC center pins was a new learning.
Since I was using cables from Elecraft, that would have never crossed my
mind.
I did change cables and all appears to be back to normal for now. I checked
the center pin to pin on the cable I removed and
Charlie,
Your information about BNC pin size diameter used to be true but not so
anymore.
These days the BNC center pin size is the same for 50 and 75 ohms.
The quote below is from 2004 so this change took place a long time ago.

Does that mean they're interchangeable?

The connector is so small with respect to a wavelength that the
impedance mismatch is of no concern, at least up through the VHF range.
(Microwave is a different story.)

I just received a note from Howard K6IA in Customer Support at Elecraft.
He wanted to confirm my address so they can send me a replacement
BNC cable. I did not request one nor had I contacted Elecraft about the
issue directly.
Can anyone name any other company that would take the initiative

Recently, I have noticed that after a switching bands or simple setting ideal

flat line. After simply giving the IF BNC connector a light tap, everything
returns to normal.
I replaced the IF jumper with a replacement unit from
Bill,
You might want to try a different cable.
You said it was replaced sometime ago - there was a spell of time when
Elecraft had a batch of bad cables. That situation has now been
corrected, but you may indeed have 2 bad cables.
The fact that things are restored when you tap the cable says
Hi Don,
Thanks for the reply. Yes that crossed my mind but the cable I use now was
suppose to be from the new batch. I called and got replacement from
Elecraft Parts after earlier problem. I think this cable has been in use for
better than a year or more and nothing has changed. I will switch
