Hi Bob,
it sounds really interresting. I realized that my K3 after huge upgrade and
now is really fully loaded is quite hot even in idle (RX mode). The PA/FP
temp is stabilized to 38-40C in RX idle when the FAN1 speed is selected but
when I touching the cabinet sides it is quite hot. So the more
Hi Doug,
If noise is the issue you might want to search the archives. Some
time back a fellow posted information on a replacement Noctua fan that had more
CFM output but was quieter than the original per the specs.
So if replacement is required then possibly the
Dear OMs and Yls,
One of my K3 fans makes more noise than I care for whilst running just
65 Watts in CW mode. I wonder if there is an easy fix for the existing
fan. Maybe the only fix is a fan replacement?Secondly how problematic
is it to remove the fans? Does one need to rip out
Doug,
It is not really a problem to remove the fan.
Take the top cover off, remove the 4 screws holding the fan panel,
unplug the fans (noting which connector goes where), and you may want to
remove the leads to the circuit breaker.
Except for putting a new fan on the fan panel, that is all
This subject has been discussed before. There are
apparently fans by different manufacturers used in
the K3.
I'm fortunate ... the fans in mine (S/N 0056) are not
audible, even during hours-long contesting events.
They are absolutely silent. Yes, they -do- run ... I've
seen 'em. (:-)
If could
Hi Folks,
A couple months ago I conducted an informal survey of K3 fan noise
opinions here on the reflector. That survey turned up the fact that 2
different brands and models of fans were used on the KPA3 (100W module
for the K3): Elina HDF6015L-12LB-1 and UTEC AT6015L-12L2B-ND2 and
ND5.
I agree with Bill. Every instance of fan noise that I recall being
posted here ended up being assembly error (or more properly,
oversight). And since you say that they CAN be quieted down with
adjustment, I would suggestion checking for a wire touching the blades
when they spin. Loosening the
Just finished my K3/100 and all's well but the fan noise is an aggravation.
If I loosen the screws and hold the fans, no noise but when assembled it
sounds like the old card on the spokes of our bikes 50 yrs ago (obviously
much softer). The back of the K3 is acting like a sounding board for the
. Just never heard of one on this list.)

K3-100 #178 went together flawlessly, well almost, but it was smooth. Was
missing two standoffs and two screws for the fan assembly on the KPA-100.
When I did the first fan check, the relay or relays clicked but only one
operated very quietly (short lead) ...disconnected it as instructed,
Is it the missing hardware or are others experiencing noisy fans, too?
All comments to date have been about how quiet the fans are.
Are you hearing: bearing noise from a defective fan; buzzing or rattling
from a fan not firmly attached to the panel and perhaps vibrating; the
panel not firmly

I've got to fix this, both for my sanity and to save face!
Cary, the fans are very quiet. My guess is that the blades on the fan
Something must be wrong ...
Mine are ... for all practical purposes ... silent.
The only way I can tell they're operating is to
reach behind and feel moving air.
Ended with a couple of extra screws and washers.
