I've measured K2's RX noise level (antenna terminated on 50 ohm, AGC OFF, AF
and RF to max,
DMM connected to P5), when PRE is ON N = 0.055v, PRE is OFF N = 0.013v.
Are those levels OK for K2?

With Sub Rx ON, I can toggle NR ON/OFF in Sub Rx using bset. This does
not affect the ON/OFF status of the Main Rx. However, when I change the
NR setting (press/hold NR) of the SubRx, that changes both the SubRx and

I didn't think the features over the manual tuner was worth the extra
600.00. Sold it and bought the AT2K which is the best manual tuner I have

It seems there is a fair amount of interest in a high power 'remote' ATU as
well.
If Elecraft takes up the idea of a high power (I'd enjoy a mid-power remote
unit at present) ATU, it would 'seem' that the core components could be
kitted in two variations.
NR settings are per-mode, but they'll be the same for a given mode on
each receiver. I.e., you can't (at present) have different NR settings
for CW on main vs. CW on sub.
NR on/off is per-band/per-receiver.
This will be clarified in the next K3 manual (and before that, in the
errata).

A higher threshhold also has loss of softer speech as a side effect.
When room-noise and speech approach the same level the gate has a rough
time, a common situation in contests/fielddays with people and fan-cooled

- inductor tended to squeal on some units
- calibration problems in many cases
- antenna mismatches although SWR 1 reported by the logic unit
- jamming the inductor coil during an attempted tune-up
I noticed the same thing and found a note about it in the archives (TNX Don,
W3FPR). Enabling CW Text Decode forces slow AGC. The Rev B1 Owner's Manual
contained this note under Advanced Operating Features on page 31:

Oh yes! I find the K3 ATU just amazing and have often thought how terrific it
would be to yank it out of the box and put it outside - and - how REALLY nice
it would be to have it scaled up to handle at least 600 watts or even the legal
limit - and - work seamlessly with the K3 - and - perhaps
I enjoy using computer programs with my K3. For, me it adds to the
enjoyment.
I've put a video on YouTube showing my setup, if anyone is interested.
I find the ability of several pieces of software to operate together to
be fascinating.

I have owned a Palstar AT Auto for 18 months with heavy use and it has been
flawless. No problems like those cited above. Certainly the best auto tuner
I have owned. It has been an exceptional piece of equipment, like my K3.
Also, like Phil, I own a Palstar AT2K -- the best modern day manual
I've been using a MFJ-998 with my K3/ALS-600 for almost two years now.
Works great. I also used it with an ALS-1300 that I had here for about two
months, and the MFJ-998 easily handled the higher power of the ALS-1300.

I'm progressing on my build of K1 #2822 and I've hit a conceptual block in my
understanding of an aspect of the alignment process. I apologise if this has

Spectrogram helps, so go to www.n0ss.net and read the details.
Do the following steps in order:
1) set the BFO frequency to position the center of the FL3 passband at
your chosen sidetone pitch (600 Hz in your case)/
2)Then with Spectrogran still active, set the switch on the bottom of

AGC.
