All,
I am just returning from a mountaintop weekend running the June QSO party in a
multi-op environment. The k2 I supplied for the 222 station worked great, but
there were several complaints, and I will be attempting to fix these before
it's next excursion into this environment.
The main
I'm looking for input on the winding and installation of toroid RFC11
which mounts underneath the K2's RF board. Assuming I wind RFC11 such that
85% of the toroid is used, I don't see how it can easily be secured by the
leads given the location of the lead holes. How has this worked out for
I am a new HAM operator witha Tech+ ticket, (hopefully General after this
weekend).
I am presently building my K2 but it is going slowly due to lack of time.
Last night, being pretty brain dead after four hours of studying for a
commercial radio operators test, I decided to give 40-meters a
Jukka,
I suggest you build the RF Probe provided with the K2 kit. Use the probe
and your DMM to determine where the RF is being lost.
In transmit mode (TUNE), you should find RF in ever increasing levels at the
following points:
TP1,
Xmit Mixer - U10 pin 4
Xmit Buffer - U9 pin 6 (and input to

select any of the CAL menu items or the ATU menu item, the receiver and
S meter work normally. As soon as I exit the menu, it goes back to no

Lerma and I are going to man an Elecraft booth the Hamcom convention (

any of you would like to hang out at the booth showing off your rig and
meeting current and prospective Elecrafters, please email me

When the KX1 is used hand-held, it's difficult to log, since you need
three hands (one each for the KX1, log, and pen). To simplify this,
we've created a loose-leaf mini-log that attaches to the back of the
radio via the thumbscrews. When operating hand-held, you simply flip
the rig over and
I don't know if it is right, but I rotated the lugs themselves so that
one was in the channel at the bottom and then just bent the other one
down towards the center of the hole and there was enough room to slide a
piece of hooked wire in.

We had a meeting of the CheeseHead QRP group last Monday. We had a plethora
of radios setup on a bench with daisy chained antenna switches to antenna
farm. There were rockmites, SGC's, Yaesu's and of course all 3 Elecrafts.
The guys were blown away by the K2, the K1 they had already seen before

I put some pictures on the web at: http://users.frii.com/rwc/rfc11/
showing how I mounted RFC11 using a small rubber bumper (an extra from
on of the Elecraft kits I built long ago).
Hope it

The only procedure listed in the manual is the one found on p65 of the manual
in the SIG row of the table (summarized):
Set [L: 40-99] for zero bars indication in S-meter mode with no signal.
Set [H: 2-7] for 6 bars with an approx S9+20 dB signal injected.
I have a slightly different procedure,
Gotta Love the way Wayne thinks. These templets work great. I did need to
enlarge them some to fit on to my KX1. For some reason the template as sent
was about 90% the size that fit the rig. Now I am ready to hit the field and
travel. There is even enough room to write notes on the back if you do
Hi All,
Have just completed my KPA100, and am at the aligment stage.
Regarding the aligment of R6 (Bias set).
The manual says to connect your DMM in series with the positive power lead,
with
the + lead of the DMM to the power supply and the - lead to the KPA100 side.
I assume this means I
Another Tip you may or may not find useful. Laminate your logs with clear
plastic shelving paper. You can then write on it with pencil, transfer your
log, erase and use them over.

I was aligning the SSB filter settings on my K2 and listening on another
radio. Once I had it set, I started a QSO on 80m and was making further
adjustments to the filters. I didn't notice it at first, but I started
hearing the last 5 seconds of my transmissions at approximately S5.

I used two K2's at W3CCX over the weekend. I found one of them to be
usable under the multimulti conditions. That was not mine, but one built
by John Sortor, KB3XG. He had mounted an auxiliary audio amplifier
in the lid and it made a world of difference.
