[Elecraft] Places to fit additions to K2

2004-09-22 Thread Geoffrey Mackenzie-Kennedy
Hi Tom, Have been doing some idle thinking (global thinking if you don't mind) about the installation of new bibs and bobs into the K2 - such as the zero beat indicator. Seems to me that the beast is growing like topsy with a lot of little pcbs and probably a lot of messy interconnections, and

[Elecraft] K2/100 power-out change

2004-09-22 Thread David J Windisch
Hi, all concerned: I have two K2/100's (34XX and 37XX) which have 40M c-w-mode power-out variations at a rate of about once a second. For example, if I set 40W out, they will alternate from 35 to 40W. It happens on a dummy load, into an antenna, and makes driving an amp interesting ;o)

One more comment: don't install the RS232 driver chip of the KPA100, only of the KIO2. This way, the cable between K2 and KPA100 and RS232 PC can be made symetrical I've also made small mods to the KAT100 (changed the diodes) so that the small round plug can be used to feed the K2. Now, there

Re: [Elecraft] Low Power ?

G'day, No, not twisting. Interleaving is simple. Pass one wire through each hole, then pass the other wire through each hole. Keep alternating until all the windings are done. As I remember, one winding has more turns, so start with that wire first. This is different from the original

Interestingly, my TS850S does this too... it's a well known bug in the TS850. The Kenwood problem is in the ALC circuitry, new rigs don't do this... it develops over time. I'm not familiar with the K2 circuit, but it sounds like it could be a decoupling problem. Larry N8LP - Original

It IS in the software ALC... reflects the ALC's attempting (at about a 1-seconds rate) to 'stabilize the output at the requested power level... Seems I recall there being a fairly simply remedy to this problem... at least to remedy MOST, if not all, of it. If I recall, it was the addition of

[Elecraft] remote KPA100

OK, this may be a silly question but... Why do I need a KIO to run the KPA100 remotely? In my case, I just want to have the PA in a seperate enclosure to keep it in a better ventilated area of my congestion (maybe 2 or 3 feet away from the K2). Is this too long of a run for the I/O cable or RF?

Rich, Dave, and all, This is 'usual' behavior for the K2 - it seems the power shifts by about 5 watts in high power mode. It is present, but not noticable in low power mode because the shift is only about half a watt which is a smaller percentage of the power setting. Checking the

Julius, Easy answer (but not really 'silly') - the KPA100 has no bandswitch or other controls - it gets its information from the K2, so the K2 must have a path to communicate with the KPA100. There are 4 signal lines on the KIO2 connector that contain the signals required. I might point
