Why on earth would you want to possibly compromise the excellent performance
of the K2 when there are cheap purpose built FM transceivers in abundance on
the market and second hand they can be picked up for peanuts?
Even without this in mind the immediate problems are:

Comments about an FM mode for the K2 again remind me that many new hams get
started with VHF rigs, and first contacts are often through repeater nets.
I think a new product similar to the Ten-Tec 6N2(except designed up to
Elecraft performance standards), would be extremely well received by new

Last week I ordered parts to upgrade my unbuilt KPA-100 that was manufactured
in Jan 2004 to the current revision.
Instead of receiving a FWKPA100 firmware, KPA100Modkt and KPA-100 Shield
upgrade all I recieved today was the shield upgrade. Mis-communication
somewhere I suppose.

Hi Herb and I echo the sentiments of all the other Hams, Welcome to Amateur

At that time, even Heathkit was emerging but I must tell you I had so much
fun and excitement building all those kits. There were many
Hello Ian:
It's not your fault! The K60XV was added to the Elecraft lineup after the
transverters. At that time a K2 would always have been set for 5 watts out
to produce 20 watts on 144 mHz. Use the K2 power setting that should
correspond to 20 watts.
Of course, you must also have the

Geoff, I think I'm all set for now, and the work is progressing nicely. I

With regard to S meter readings it does appear at least with my K2 #4168 and
a later K2 #4324 tested a few weeks back that 80, 40, 30, 20 and 17m bands
come out with similar sensitivity in the level required for S9 when switched
to the same mode and bandwidth. For 15, 12 and 10m

Folks,
After playing with the AGC threshold vs. S-9 = 50 uV on several K2s, I can
state that the value of 3.80 volts is only a nominal value, and in my
experience should only be considered as an upper limit. I have found the
proper AGC threshold to range from 3.65 volts to 3.8 volts.
