You should measure at the other end of the wires, to see what the radio is

You should not expect a flat SWR after the tuner unless the

Admittedly, I have an $80 Straight Key and some $80 paddles, but the SK
needn't be fancy to go from zip to 10 WPM. You should be able to find
something (my first one was $4.95 at Radio Shack, but that was a few years
ago - Currently, it's a chrome-plated Bencher straight key).

Mine works fine. I don't remember the diodes I used, but they were tiny
(tiny enough to fit inside the sub-miniture jack) and work FB. I think it
was a pack of 50 from Radio Shack for a few bucks. I can lookup the type if
it matters.
I use it both ways. I use the keyer to send when on
OK, ok, ok. You made me look (I got to use my +2.50 diopter reading glasses

My (hasn't ever glitched) diodes are 1N4148. I believe from Radio Shack.

That's silly! Modern computers are WAY more capable than that. Someone
in charge of one of these keying programs needs to look into the Win-32 API
for starting threads with differing priorities. I'm not one of those
programmers, but I KNOW you can make the opsys dispatch you often enough, if
Your survey controls are flawed. It's quite likely that lefties respond more
often than righties, because righties believe they are normal (How wrong
could they be!) and needn't reply, whereas lefties want to set the record
straight.
A proper control might be some sort of handedness-neutral

I checked mine, and also got zero attenuation. Then, I remembered to turn
off the AGC. Results were much more believable, but still decent. My filters
had much steeper skirts, tho, if memory serves (it usually doesn't). BTW,

Just curious, but I don't have the buzz (I guess - I'm never more than

I just gave up on the whole thing, bought a car battery and a $20 trickle
charger. Two (both sides) 30A fuse holders and it even works after the power

Absolutely Excellent report. Of course, you did split an infinitive and
neglect the QRM of the 'net.
Very enjoyable read.

What's a good user-group or email reflector for emtpy-state devices?
I had an overwhelming wave of nostalgia recently, and bought an HW-101 off
eBay. It works (about 1% of the time), but mostly doesn't put out much RF.

Thanks to Kevin and Ron for the Glowbugs tip, but I never got a round tuit.

I did, and I don't regret it much. It is sometimes valuable to have another

the latest and greatest mod, verifying zero-beat procedures, etc.
So much so, that I bought a second rig. I got a Tec-Tec Delta 580 for a
