that I missed a step, and then shut down too early or something... I guess
this is an issue with the beta software

I've never had any problem on a firmware update, and the new load onto the
P3 worked just fine.
Then, I opened the K3 fw utility and proceeded to install the 4.12
revision.

Are you using the latest K3 Utility? If not, download that first.
Then follow the instructions in the K3 Utility help file to force a K3
firmware load. You must unplug the power from the K3, not just cycle
with the power button.
If that does not work, perhaps Dick will help you.
Situation resolved. Kudos, as always, to the vigilant and knowledgeable
guys monitoring this reflector.
For others who have a K3 / P3 setup, you may wish to familiarize yourself
with the bootloader operation and sequencing of the combined pair of units.
