Alas! I suppose the KX1 does not have a separate audio oscillator that you can trigger in receive. I did this on my old OHR Spirit with a pushbutton and one or two diodes. Works like a charm. But many other QRP rigs I guess sample the transmitted signal. Wait! You said that it has a sidetone
