Re: Converting PST files from PC to Mac

Outlook 2001 doesn't support HTML mail, explaining why they wouldn't be
showing up properly. However, if you follow Paul's advice to import
messages into Entourage X, the HTML mail should be readable.

This is FAQ 74 FAQs for Entourage:Mac
 http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/faqs.html#anchor-74

74) How do you import a windows based *.pst file (from Office XP) into
Entourage?

There is nothing except Outlook that can read .pst files. What you need to
do is borrow a friend's PC with Outlook for about an hour. Ask him or her to
create a new Outlook profile for you. Import your .pst file(s) into the new
profile. Immediately export again as .csv files with default mappings the
Contacts , calendar, tasks and/or notes folders, as in the instructions of
the Outlook section of the ReadMe in Export-Import Entourage. Then follow
the instructions for importing the Outlook mail folders into Eudora and out
from there as .mbox files, again according to the instructions in the
ReadMe. Then your friend can delete your profile, although I'd suggest
asking him to keep it for a couple of days until you have everything safely
transferred to Entourage.)

Burn all these files to a CD - they will probably be too big to email to
yourself but that's the alternative. Then follow the rest of the
instructions in Export-Import Entourage for converting them and getting them
into Entourage.

Entourage doesn't read .pst files - nothing but Outlook does. (And I find it
pretty amazing that the Outlook 2001 programmers were able to get Outlook
2001 to read and write .pst files that interchange with Outlook PC.)

If you're using Outlook 2001, you must be on Exchange Server. You already
have Entourage 10.1.4 and so can access Exchange from Entourage. Back in
Outlook Windows, open your .psts and transfer the Mail Folders .pst back up
to the server - in a new profile if it's more convenient that way. (Or if
you have only one big .pst with all your data, do this in a new profile.) Or
simply use your current Folders if they're current, without bothering with
the .psts at all. Make sure that your Mail Folders are on the server, and
simply access them in Entourage. If you want to remove those messages form
the server (again), drag-copy messages from Exchange folders to local mail
folders within Entourage, then delete them from Exchange.

HTML formatting will be preserved, but mail that was written in Outlook's
RTF format will become plain text, as you're seeing in 2001, since Entourage
can't read that RTF. If any of those RTF messages contain important
attachments, you should convert those messages to either plain text or HTML
within Outlook - otherwise they may become inaccessible within winmail.dat
attachments. (Actually I don't know if that's happening on Exchange itself
within Entourage- ca someone say if it is? Perhaps it isn't. Anyway, if you
do see any of those, you can open them on the Mac with a free utility called
TNEF's Enuf available at http://www.versiontracker.com )

For Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Notes, you can get my Export-Import
Entourage X shareware scripts at

 MacScripter.net http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/

You will be exporting all those items from Outlook Windows (any version) as
.CSV files, not as .PST. Everything will come across to Entourage with all
fields, categories, etc. intact. (Apologies for the plug.)
