Good Day;

Through acquisition, our company has grown from 1 site to 3. I have been tasked
with evaluation different strategies for unifying e-mail for them. I have not
worked with Exchange in a very long time, and have forgotten much of what I
knew back in the day. So I'm just looking for some guidance about deployment
options. For now, I'm not concerned about licensing; I'm just studying the
technical feasibility. Current landscape is:

MainSite has AD Domain= MainSite.local, External (e-mail) domain =
MainSite.com, + 5 alias domains
Site 2 has AD Domain = Site1.local, external domain = Site2.com + 3 alias
domains
Site 3 has AD Domain = Site2.local, external domain = Site3.com + 2 alias
domains

There are no inter-domain trusts, and each AD domain is its own forest.

MainSite and Site2 are both using non-Exchange mail servers, with Outlook (2007
or better) as the client.
Site3 is using Exchange 2010, also using at least Outlook 2007

Defined goals are (1) all mail on one server, (2) all e-mail addresses end with
MainSite.com

To bring the other sites into the Exchange on SiteB, do we need to rename the
other two AD domains, so that all are the same? Is creating a new forest
containing the three existing AD structures a feasible plan?

Can Exchange provide e-mail to accounts not on the Exchange server's domain?
Are there limitations?

Do I have to rename the Exchange AD Domain in order for mail addresses to
always have the desired '@MainSite.com' format? From What I've found in web
searches, renaming an Exchange domain can be an adventure.

I really want to engage a local consultant for a few hours to get fine details
on this, but my boss wants to first 'see what I can find out on my own'.
Mostly, I want to get a little better handle on how complex a project this is.
Merging everything to one of the non-Exchange servers is fairly straight
forward: add the domain aliases, export the user's PST file, reconfigure the
server connections, re-import the PST.

If anyone has advice or good links to read, I would be most appreciative.
