I have MS Access front end with MySQL back end working in my office. MSAccess
via CrossOver office on Mandrake is horrible. So, I am looking now to probably
go with ERP (or ERP/CRM) software that I can get freely out there. I have no IT
budget, I am the IT budget, so I have to do something. Any
I want to allow users to either login to their workstation (like the way it
works our of the box)or login to remote x-terminal. Usualy they would run their
programs on X server via remote X terminal, but if server fails, they could
log-in localy and do some of the work on their slow systems.
How
I have X server working. It looks like there no problems with it.
Now how do I have workstations (that have full Mandrake 9.1 installed in them)
to use X server, but not their own X right when they are turned on. I want the
login screen to come up that is fed from X server (not local one).
I am
I am trying to connect my workstationA to my serverB, so workstationA would be
running X-terminal off the serverB. I want to see the login screen that serverB
has, so I could use all the apps on that server. Well, my logs on my
workstationA are showing XDM: too many retransmissions What can I do
I have edited /etc/init.d/xfs file and changed -1 to 7100 . Did complete
restart of the system, but I still can't see XFS on the netstat -a and neither
of the workstation can see it either.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

I tried XDM, X-server, and I failed. Nobody would help me, I sent numerous
e-mails to many lists. So...
Is there any other package I can use so my two desktops with slow drives could
just have VNC or other app start and it would go full screen (so it is like they
are working on their own system)
I have Mandrake 9.1 on my server and same on workstations. Workstations have
full install in them, not just minimum. I would like to be able to have
workstation during log-in ability to choose to log-in localy or into xdm server.
How can it be done?
Now when I enter /usr/X11R6/bin/X -query
I have NIS server set-up. Now I want to have client to have all centralized
authentication. How can I make client (all mandrakes 9.1) to pick up passwords
and users from central NIS server?
This way when I make NFS export accessible to lets say user X, I don't have to
go to client machine and make
OK, so I have my web/mail/webmail server running RedHat9.0 (will be switching to
mandrake in two weeks), fileserv/database is sitting on RedHat7.1 (haven't
touched the system for a year).
All clients are Win98 with MSOffice/MSAccess.
My plan is to move all workstation to Mandrake9.1 with
