This is weird. While in runlevel 5 I like to work on a normal text
console (ALT-Ctrl-F1) quite often. midnight commander (mc) is very useful
in this context, and it has always worked ok with previous versions of
mandrake.

install a fresh 8.2 system
install the openoffice rpm included in 8.2 distro
everything works ok.
2)
uninstall the openoffice rpm
install openoffice.org 1.0.1 downloaded from openoffice.org site
