with Maxtor alone--as drive /dev/hda ? If you have room for a
minimal install, this should point something.
Someone with a similar lspcidrake output is running OK with a

for the sake of experiment I completely removed the maxtor drive from the
mix, unplugged both power and ribbon cable and removed it from the bios and
reset the bios. You guessed it same problemthe only drives in the mix
right now are the cdrw, Western Digital 10.1 gig and my 1.44 3
yes I did yet ANOTHER INSTALL grrr! I saw after it posted I didn't say
that I had done it...what was that 907 908 LOL I can install
Mandrake 7.1 in my sleep now...
my problem is that I don't understand why all the equipment works perfectly
in other distros and versions.and

drive doesn't work either...and it is just a plain old 1.44 3 1/2
drive...nothing elaborate about it...the only drives I can access are
the 2 windoze drives...no cdrw or floppy output at all.hope this

Did you enable supermount during the install?
I have been talking with civilme and others about my
cd-rw and tried disabling supermount so I could just
manually mount the cd with different file systems.
Guess what, caused the CD-RW to quit functioning.
Re-enabling supermount got it working
