I've been a Gnome user for some time (Mandrake 7.1 with original kernel,
x 3.3.6) so decided to take a look at the new KDE 2.0.1-stable. In order
to install the rpm's with no dependency issues I had to upgrade pam,
install arts, etc. Since there were significant changes I decided to
(aagghh) reboot.

Now I don't even get to a grub boot menu - endless stage1 strings -
strung together. Am I correct in thinking that pam could be the culprit?
I can't imagine any kde libs or arts doing something like this to grub.

On the Gnome side, I've been running Ximian, Evo & Nautilus - and that's
basically all of the 'cutting edge' testing I'm doing at this time, tho
most of my libs have been upgraded to 7.2 stable - no cooker, I'm still
with glibc_2.1.

Since I've got a dual boot with Win98, I hosed the mbr & booted to Win
for now. Does any of this rambling give a clue to anyone as to what's
going on?
