hi,
have discovered a problem on my harddisk.
the fdisk-call shows as follows :

Befehl (m für Hilfe): p

Festplatte /dev/hdb: 255 Köpfe, 63 Sektoren, 627 Zylinder
Einheiten: Zylinder mit 16065 * 512 Bytes

Gerät boot. Anfang Ende Blöcke Id Dateisystemtyp
/dev/hdb1 * 1 63 506016 83 Linux
/dev/hdb2 64 628 4536472+ 5 Erweiterte
Partition 2 endet nicht an einer Zylindergrenze:
     phys=(627, 194, 63) should be (627, 254, 63)
/dev/hdb5 64 94 248976 82 Linux Swap
/dev/hdb6 95 346 2024158+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdb7 347 628 2263243+ 83 Linux

the problem I have is at booting :
at first I had installed the hd as drive hda, have done a COMPLETE new
install-process.
hte partitions I have there, was made from "auto-assign" - don't know
the name exactly but the partitions was made automatically during the
install-process.

After completing the installprocess I made a normal restart, but the
boot-prompt says, there would be NO LINUX-partion for booting the
system.

Now I have tried to boot with "rescue" from CD, starts and then I said
the bootimage should be on "hda1" - after that I rebooted the system,
but once again I got the message there would be no Linix-system there.

then I started the rescue-process again and defined the startimage on
/dev/hda as a disc.

reboot again, defined the hd as hdb, defined a LS-120 MB as an optical
disc - does all the mentioned steps again - made the entry on /dev/hda
again - as a bootable device and now the start is possible.

Now my 2 very important and interesting questions :
why do I have the bad entry on /dev/hdb
and why am I NOT able to boot from the hd as a hda ?

does anyone have an idea of about such a behavior ?

hope anyone can help here ?

thanks and bye hans
