I was installing on top of the old. I deleted the .kde directories, and
all the kde-related directories in /usr/share, and all the /tmp files
related to kde, then followed the instructions "DO_NOT_READ_THIS" and it

You can do a export DISPLAY=yourmachine:0.0 and then run any X
applications. If your machine is a windows machine, you can use a program
called xwin32 or reflection X which emulates a Xwindows server and lets
you export the display to your Windows Desktop.
