access the program unless I'm logged on as root. Is this a security
setting with RedHat/Mandrake distribs? And how can I give permission to
users to access minicom?

killev first, but not as often as without. I
went ahead and added killev to my menu to execute before evolution and so
far it seems to work. I'll let you know if it reverts back to the
previous behavior. Strange, eh?
