I have several cats who are 5+ years old, and all tested FelV
negative years ago when I adopted them. However they are inside -
outside cats, and are also exposed to rescued cats I bring home
to be adopted out. These cats also tested neg. but there is always

Anne,
I'm so sorry to hear about Jonathan.
Thank you for being his caregiver for so many years.
Now he is free of illnesses and happy at the bridge.
He has been met by many that have gone there before him.
I remember you talking about him occasionally on the list.
As you know my ears perk up
Anne,
I am so sorry to hear about Johathan!! I too am from Michigan! I am currently

Lorrie,
JMO but if they have never been vaccinated I'd have them tested before getting

Oh wow, we're talking big bux here, as I have 14 permanent
cats at home :-( I just wondered if anyone knew if the vaccine
would hurt my cats if they were positive, but asymptomatic. I'll
ask my vet tomorrow, but I value the opinions of the people in
this group as much as any vet's opinion.
Hi Lorrie
This is probably a controversial opinion, but if they are indoor cats
I would not vaccinate them.
I read the book 'Vaccinations for Dogs and Cats' by C Diodoti a few
years ago (she is vaccine researcher) and I have become very cautious
and conservative about vaccinations. If you want to
There is no problem with giving a FeLV positive cat the FeLV vaccine. Some
would say it was just a waste of money (for the positive cat) but there are
people on the FeLV lists that have given their positives cats the vaccine
every year and some claim to have some very old cats with FeLV. I

I'm one of the ones with old FELV cats. I have two 12-13 yr old cats,
that I got from someone else, in Oklahoma actually. Her vet believed
in vaccinating FELV cats with the FELV vaccine. I just spoke with one
of my vets about that, as I took in a new little FELV kitten. This

Vaccinations scare me. Not vaccinating scares me. It is a crapshoot.
You have two cats that were vaccinated against FELV and were FELV+ and
have lived long lives.
We had an older cat who we had no vet records on so had to give the
Rabies vaccination on, by law. We also gave him a distemper

Hi Gloria,
I have been considering giving all my positives the vaccine, just on the
outside chance it might actually help. I'll give the shots myself, so the
expense won't be that much. Unfortunately, none of us has a large enough
sample to make for a real research project with statistically

My two positives were vaccinated for years (I was ignorant and so,
apparently, was our vet).
Squeaky always became very sick for 3 days after the vaccination. It didn't

time Squeaky was ever sick.

PLEASE go to www.adopt.bemikitties.com and put your vet's info into the
database of progressive vets! hopefully, someday, there'll be enough listed
so that whenever anyone gets the diagnosis, they can just go there and find
someone nearby who will work WITH them, and FOR the kitties.

On Fri,
Thanks, Terrie, so much, as always. I love what you do for the Siamese
kitties. They have always caught my heart and Jonathan was no exception
from the very start. :-)
Christy, thank you for your kind note. I live in a little rural town
northeast of Flint. Where are you? I will keep
Oh Anne, how sweet - he sounds like such a lovely, lucky kitty. I'm
