Lynda, I hope that the clumping litter you are using does NOT contain sodium bentonite! Often they don't list it, but they tell you NOT to flush down the toilet, you can be assured that it contains it! I have lots of info on it, but this site does not allow more than a certain amount to be sent.

Petsmart carries a wheat litter that is relatively inexpensive. Exquisicat Natural Wheat. I'm transitioning to this I bought a bag for my FLUTD boy, and the gang seems to be making the switch well. It's also scoopable, and I haven't noticed any litter box odors. Maybe give this a try.
