Re: [Felvtalk] uveitis

2016-05-27 Thread ROBERT CHAPEL
Wonder if anyone has has any success with treating Uveitis in FeLV
cats.  I've had my 10 mo. old guy to two different Vets...One
prescribed tribple ABX with Corticosteroid which had no appreciable
effect the other vet counseled against using Cortisones due to the
risk of Corneal Ulcers Without treatment my guy is now losing his
vision...he has blood in the Anterior Chamber in both eyes and Lens
clouding in the right eye.  It is getting VERY troubling when I get
different opinions about something so important  I'm having rather a
difficult time sitting by and letting my guy go blind. The
Literature all points to Corticosteroid Drops as the first line
treatment  but this is for the disease as it affects so called "
normal " cats.    Which is the lesser of evils with Cortisone Tx in
this case..??

Currently following Amani's suggestion from a while ago and rinsing his
eyes a few times a day with Contact Lens Solution to keep them from
Gunking up but.  He IS losing and none of the vets appear at all
inclined to do further testing.   Again  it's like they are
saying " Oh isn't it nice that you want to save this sweet FeLV Kitty
but, really, don't try TOO hard"

Roxanne, the pain is unbearable, I know, but it is so much better than he was
with you and he felt your love before he went back to being the angel you
always knew him to be. Once, a long time ago, one of my cats died alone when I
wasn't home. That is an ache in my soul that has never gone away. I am crying
again now when I think about it, even though it happened more than 20 years ago.

This was a beloved foster. Not felv. However I need to express myself somewhere
as I am depressed. He was eight months old and died Thursday on the way to door
county. I was going out of town and needed to bring him with as he was on meds
and was in congestive heart failure. I think he had a fatal heart attack. I
feel if I would have left him home he would not have died. My choice killed him.

Roxanne please don't feel guilty - I know that may be difficult right now - but
what if you left him at home and then you found him dead when you returned.  He
was with you - someone who loved and cared for him even if for a short time.
Thinking of you and praying for peace,

Dear Roxanne,

I am so sorry for your loss & the pain you are feeling.

Please don't beat yourself up - You said he was in congestive heart failure. I
have had 2 kitties that developed this condition.  One died at home while I was
at work, the other died at the vet's office while they were trying to stabilize
him.  My vet explained to me that dogs in CHF are much easier to treat than
cats are - a cat's prognosis is slim at best.

You did your best for him & he died with you, not alone. Your choice did not
kill him!!

I will light a candle for your kitty.  I am sending healing hugs to you.

No, Roxanne.More likely he would have died alone. CHF in a cat that young is a sad thing, but sometimes treatment just can't do enough. He's safe at The Bridge, now, and you did what you thought was best. I don't think you could have made any other choice.I am very sorry he is gone.{{{white light, gentle healing}}}Margo-Original Message-
