hi, I would like to install x11 using fink. Before making any mistake I'd like to know which of the several packages I should install. I ask because on my old G4 I could not install xbase, but rather I had to install a version of it that acknowledged I had installed x11 independently of fink.

I get both messages (fonts and keymapping) on my (working) XFree86 startup. I had a similar problem at one point, and it turned out that I was calling a nonexistent window manager in my .xinitrc, so X quit w/o a message. -- Alexander Hansen Levitated Dipole Experiment

If you are using the builtin X11 with Panther, then you are supposed to have a system-xfree86 virtual package. Check this by running fink-virtual-pkgs. If you do have such a virtual package, then Fink won't let you install XFree86 over your existing X11. If you want to install XFree86 with
