If sued with a beta version of growl, Fink says: Use of uninitialized value $growl_version in string eq at /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/VirtPackage.pm line 1421. Which is down to the interpretation of Growl versions in Fink::VirtPackage. A fix would be to adapt the regexp to include 'b' in the version
