I've got two freetype-configs on my PATH. How many should there be:
% where freetype-config
/usr/X11/bin/freetype-config
/usr/X11R6/bin/freetype-config
These two are the same, because /usr/X11R6 is a symlink to /usr/X11.
They appear as two, because you have both

I did some more digging, and found that this freetype-config comes
from Darwine, which I installed a few days ago. I had not expected it
to be messing around with my X11 stuff. I should have studied the

It's probably worth looking at the config.log . I wasn't able to
reproduce this on 10.5.1/PowerPC, with or without
freetype2-hinting-dev installed.

The following extract from config.log seems strange, but I am no
expert on these things:
configure:20590: checking for FT_Init_FreeType in -lfreetype
configure:20620: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -L/usr/X11R6/lib conftest.c -
lfreetype -L/Users/Zee/Desktop/freetype2//lib -lfreetype -lz 5

you might have something odd installed on your system in /Users/Zee or a

My system doesn't show those sorts of errors and never goes into /Users
in config.log.
