You are correct about Texas. A house of worship must post a statutory sign to prohibit guns inside.
However, one should be very careful - many churches, synagogues, and mosques have schools inside the buildings. It could be argued that the schoolhouse gun prohibition applies. At least in that section of the building. I just carry discreetly and ensure nobody asks or thinks about such things.
