Firebird Project announces the first Alpha release of Firebird 3.0, the
next major version of the Firebird relational database, which is now
available for testing.
This Alpha release arrives with an early preview of the features and
improvements currently under development by the Firebird

Not often I get actually excited reading release notes -- but the level of
encryption support in 3.0 is truly exciting.
We used Firebird in high-volume e-commerce situations and this new encryption
capability is going to be a major win for a continued focus on Firebird with
our core product.
