Moving to another product is one option, though there are several impediments 
including:

- Time to investigate alternatives
- Time to implement/setup new solution
- Time to build data conversion to port the existing case data

Sponsor would help but all of those need someone's time -- not all of which 
would be covered by a sponsor/$$$

P.S.    Reminder, there is no push to move the project tracker -- it is working 
OK with little overhead.  This mail conversation has been in the context of a 
third-party reporting that they can't JIRA upgrade using Firebird.
