Re: [Firebird-docs] How to translate COLLATION into German?
Martin, > How would you translate COLLATION or COLLATE? Do we translate this > or leave it as it is? In this case I'd suggest to stay with "Collation". A collation is different from a "sort order" (Sortierreihenfolge). It's more like the algorithm that "does" the sorting. (Sort order is more the result of what the collation has done.) Collations are also not only used for sorting (order by) but also for comparisons (A=B). "Sortiermethode" would probably fit better, but I would just use the English term Collation also in the German translations. It would also make it easier to read English language documentation after one has read the German one. Regards Stefan -- What NetFlow Analyzer can do for you? [Firebird-docs] Fb3 Release Notes
Hello all, I have seen this in the Fb3 Final Release Notes on Page 108: The size of the body of a stored procedure or a trigger can exceed the traditional limit of 32 KB. The theoretical limit provided by the new API is 4GB. At the moment, as a security measure, a hard-coded limit of 10MB is imposed. The same limit of 10MB also applies to any user-defined DSQL query. * It may change before the final release. * Regards Stefan -- Find and fix application performance issues faster with Applications Manager Applications Manager provides deep performance insights into multiple tiers of your business applications. [Firebird-docs] Firebird 3 Authentication: passwords
I'm just reading through the Firebird 3 release notes. The chapter about Increased Password Length speaks of a maximum of 20 bytes. The second blue box in this chapter then asks: **Why is the password effectively limited to 20 characters? It is unclear from this documentation if this is about bytes or characters. What character set is used for storing passwords? Are these restricted to 7-Bit US-ASCII? (in this case, the number of bytes and characters would be the same). (I hope this is the right forum for this question, if not, please give me a hint.) Best Regards Stefan -- Don't Limit Your Business. Reach for the Cloud. Re: [Firebird-docs] Choosing the translation service
So, text should look like this: Each block of statements must be put within the operator parentheses BEGIN and END Not very good? Fine, then something like this: Each block of statements must be put within block delimiters BEGIN and END. I think the original text seems to be weak here. BEGIN statements END is a Compound Statement and not a bracket. You don't have to put a block of statements between a BEGIN and an END. The idea is different: A procedure or an IF THEN/ELSE/WHILE block or whatever is made up of one statement. And if you want to have more than one statement you have to use a compound statement. (A procedure body always being a compound statement, but that's another story.) I think it's extremely difficult for a translator who is used to translating commercial or legal texts to do such a highly technical translation. Isn't there somebody out there in the Russian speaking Firebird community who could do a first translation?
