The --best switch currently synonymous with -8 that synonymous with --compression-level-8 that synonymous with -l 12 -b 4096 -m -e -r 6. Why value of -r switch in --best is limited to 6? The maximum Rice order is 8 (not 6) for the stream to be Subset compatible. -r 8 (-l 12 -b 4096 -m -e -r 8)

check the resulting file for subset blocksizes, sample rates, bits per sample, LPC filter order and rice partition order. That's all parameters that I need to check? FLAC tools have a lots of warnings about non-subset files during encoding, but unfortunately don't have easy way to check/test

My portable audio player starts to stutter mildly when files have LPC blocks with a order larger than 12, but I'm not sure it will play files with very large blocksizes or unusual samplerates at all. Can you name model of your portable audio player please?
